Voice Application Development FAQ:

Why would I want a hosted service rather than one in the office?

"Hosted services have a number of advantages over CPE based solutions. Here are just a few:

1. Servers are located in a carrier grade data centre making them less likely to be impacted by external influences like power failures.

2. Economies of scale can be achieved by running many applications on the same platform.

3. Telecommunications costs are less. JBO Communications servers has the ability to handle 100's of concurrent calls. Having this capacity in a CPE environment may cost thousands of dollars per month and require additional and expensive hardware to be installed in the customers PABX.

4. The system is fully managed and monitored 24 * 7."

Can I use the system for outbound Telemarketing?

"Yes provided this is done in accordance with legislation for the Australian Do Not Call register. JBO Communications will charge a $25 handling fee to each unwelcome call complaint received from our upstream provider for those services being used for outbound telemarketing."

Can I use the system for the sending of bulk SMS messages?

"No, while the system is able to handle a considerable number of SMS messages per hour it is not designed for this type of application. It would also not be a viable option financially. A better option may be to source these services from some of the specialist SMS service providers."

Do you guarantee that an SMS sent from the system will be delivered to the recipients mobile phone?

"SMS delivery is a non-real time system and messages are stored in the carriers SMSC and delivered when the mobile becomes available. There are a number of issues that may prevent the delivery of an SMS message to a handset which are outside the control of JBO Communications that we could never make this guarantee."

What numbers can SMS messages be sent to?

"SMS messages can only be sent to Australian Mobile numbers, these are 10 digit numbers commencing with 04 or 11 digit numbers commencing with 614."

What support is available for the applications hosted by JBO Communications?

"Application development includes business hours support, as gazetted in the NSW government gazette. Support outside of these hours can be arranged as required.”

If we decide to move to another provider can we transfer the application to them?

“In most cases different providers will use different architecture and as a result applications designed to operate on one platform will not be compatible with other systems. JBO Communications has taken the approach that if we code it we own it. This means that intellectual property contained in the application as well copy write on any prompts we produce for the application will remain with JBO Communications.”

Will you develop an application for us to run on our own hardware?

“While JBO Communications primary focus is on hosted applications we are happy to look at producing solutions where a localized approach is a better option. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your requirements in this area"
