Call Termination:If your considering using JBO Communications Call Termination service then we'd certainly suggest that you try the following quick tests to allow you to gauge the type of service you can expect from the service. There are two tests available to demonstrate the service these are from the PSTN to our servers and from your location on the Internet to our severs. Test 1, PSTN to JBO Communications Servers:For this test we will use a service provides by JBO Communications called "The Gateway". This is a 1300 number which allows connection to various VoIP providers both in Australia and overseas for the cost of a local call. - From a PSTN, that is a "traditional" phone line rather than a VoIP based service, dial "The Gateway" on 1300 558 592, note that if you call from a mobile this will have a delayed answer and a prompt indicating that the call will not be un-timed.
- When prompted dial 9*2. This starts an "echo test" in which every thing you say on the phone is repeated back to you. During this test you should hear little or no delay between what you say and what you hear.
- Once you have finished with this test press the "#" key to return to the main menu.
- When prompted from the main menu dial 9*4. This will then start playing music. While there are better ways of measuring the performance of a VoIP based call music is the easiest way for someone to gauge the quality of a call. The music you are listening to should sound flow naturally and not have Skips or clicks in it. When you have finished with this test either press "#" to return to the main menu or simply hang up.
Test 2. From your location to Communications Servers via the Internet:There are many factors involved in determining how well a call placed across the Internet will work such as the speed / bandwidth of your connection, the amount of congestion on links between the two end points of the call and the number of concurrent calls that you are planning to pass over a given link. For these and other reasons it is sometimes hard to get a real feel for how a VoIP service will perform. To try to eliminate some of this uncertainty JBO Communications has set up a global test account which can be used to test connectivity between a location and our servers. Prior to conducting this test it would be worth considering some of the following points: Time of Day. Traffic levels can change during the day and this may have an impact on the results you get from these tests. If possible consider performing the test during the busy period around 20:00 (8 pm). If this is not practical then around 10:00 (10 am). Location. The results of the test will only be relevant for the location from which it is conducted. The performance that you see from your office connected to your service provider will not necessarily reflect the results that would be obtained form your home using a different provider. To complete the test proceed as follows: - Configure your SIP or IAX VoIP device, or softphone, to send a call to voiptrial.jbo.com.au with the user name and password of guest. Alow codecs of G.711 aLaw, G.711 uLaw and G.729.
- Make a call you will hear the gateway welcome prompt just as you did in the PSTN test however most of the gateways features will be unavailable.
- Finally we have a test to confirm the passing of DTMF digits. When prompted enter 9*5 to commence the test. When prompted press a single DTMF key. The system will read back the key pressed. If you press the "#" key the system will announce the key pressed and then terminate the test.
Hopefully these two tests will have given you a better feel for how the JBO Communications Call Termination offering will work for you. As allways should you have any questions please feel free to contact us. |
